about

**** The greatest compliment you can give me if you like this track is to play it for someone you love. This track is free, but I only have 2200 free downloads of it. Afterwards you will have to pay the single price, which is $1.00, BUT, if you like, you can donate whatever you want to when picking it up, and donations always help go towards more music!

This is a all-studio tracked remake of the song I made in my bedroom about a year ago now, maybe a little longer. This song has really grown and a few of the elements built a bit bigger here and there, but at it's core it's mostly still the same song, a little tune that's all in that lovely key of E on the acoustic guitar.

While I don't have someone of my own anymore, I used to, and I know how special something like that is. This song is about the enduring qualities of love and how someone can still be devoted to you even when you're not perfect, and usually far from it. It really is intensely beautiful, and strange in a way, that love can do that.

lyrics

spacing the frames
for this patchwork of mind
with my edges askew
and yours perfect in line
I'm convinced that you'll say
that's just how we're designed
to just stumble about
and somehow end up entwined
but I guess there's no arguing

with how you can take
all my feeble attempts to screw up
and just smile them away
and oh how you look so intensely
beautiful and strange
when you do
when you do
my lungs are still aching to breathe in your air
and I just can't be made to care

these salient words on my tongue
they still burn
just like
leftover stars that God
couldn't return
and I must confess
though I'm not fleet of foot
that I'd traverse the Earth
if you wished that I not stay put

there's no argument
with how you can take
all my feeble attempts to screw up
and just smile them away
and oh how you look so intensely
beautiful and strange
when you do
when you do
my heart is still beating just for you to wear
and I just can't be made to care

and I just can't compete
with all your grandiose ideas
my world is just a satellite
to orbit your heels
and I am set alone
while you gently sway and pace
to the sound of my voice
on the phone
on the phone

my every word's hanging on a string of your hair
and I just can't be made to care

and every time I start to think
the distance I can't bare
just say my name, and blink
and baby, I'll be there
I'll be there
I'll be there
you know I'll be there

and it's raining in California
but it's perfect with you out there

about

Too Small the Limelight is the project name for all of Travis Ratledge's full arrangements, across a wide range of styles. ... more From pop, to rock, to alternative, and in between, Travis's main impetus for continuing to write music isn't to make money, or grab fame, but to keep trying to write that hit song, the song you can sit back and listen to, as the writer, and say, "Damn, that's really good." less
